Frequently Asked Questions

Cookware

What material are the pans made of?

All cookware items are made of deep drawn aluminium and are coated with a strong, healthy ceramic non-stick coating. The cookware features high quality stainless steel handles which can go in the oven. All Chop & Grill cookware is oven-safe up to 220°C. The base of the cookware is made extra thick because of the forging manufacturing process, which leads to a better and more even heat conduction, without hot spots.

Is there aluminium in the cookware?

The cookware’s body is made of aluminium. Aluminium is a very good material for cookware: it is light, strong and conducts heat very well (only gold and copper are better heat conductors). The aluminium is protected from contact with food by a strong non-stick coating.

What is the non-stick coating made of?

Chop & Grill cookware is coated with Thermolon™, a ceramic coating that is manufactured without PFAS, or PFOA, and does not contain any lead or cadmium. It is made from Silicon (not to be confused with silicone), that has been transformed into a sprayable solution and then cured onto the pan in the oven. The main advantages over uncoated cookware is that non-stick cookware allows using less oil while cooking while reducing food to stick to the pan and is easily cleaned.

How safe are ceramic non-stick coatings?

Our Chop & Grill ceramic non-stick coating is made from inorganic ingredients which are all 100% safe to use in contact with all foods. Furthermore, the absence of potentially dangerous chemicals in our pans means that there is no chance of emitting toxic fumes, even if you accidentally overheat your cookware. Thermolon™ can withstand temperatures up to 450°C/850°F, something that would not be safe to do with a traditional non-stick frypan.

Are the pans induction suitable?

Yes! The pans are suited for induction. However, unlike other traditional aluminium cookware, it does not feature a stainless steel disc slammed on the bottom of the cookware to make it induction suitable.

Aluminium is by nature not magnetic and must be treated to be recognised by the induction stovetop. When adding a stainless steel disc, there is a chance the cookware can warp when heated because aluminium and stainless steel react differently to heat ("bi-metal effect").

Chop & Grill cookware features a special induction base on which (magnetic) iron particles are bound with the aluminium to form one solid material. This results in an unmatched base stability.

The exception to this is the rectangular roaster, which is not suited for induction.

Can I put my pan in the oven?

Chop & Grill cookware is oven safe up to 220°C.

Can I use metal utensils?

We recommend not to use metal utensils on any non-stick surface. Plastic, rubber or wooden utensils are recommended to protect your cookware’s non-stick performance.

Why do I need to use fat?

• Oil conducts heat much better than air, resulting in better and crispier frying

• Oil acts as a buffer so food doesn’t burn so easily

• Oil helps in browning food and the development of taste (so-called Maillard reaction)

• Oil prevents food from sticking to the pan. Even liquid food like eggs do need a little oil or butter! A non-stick pan allows the use of less oil, but it is always advised to use a bit of oil, for the reasons listed above.

What oils or fats can I use?

We recommend using butter or oils suited for frying (with higher heat resistances). For example butter, peanut oil, coconut oil or sunflower oil are good fats to start with.

Unrefined oils, like Extra Virgin Olive Oil, as healthy as they are, are not suited for frying because they can start smoking and burning at relatively low temperatures. Not only is this bad for your health, it’s also bad for your pan. It can create a layer of carbonisation on your non-stick coating resulting in the loss of non-stick performance.

We also don’t recommend using oil sprays, including aerosols, mist, and pump sprays. Small spray droplets heat up rapidly and carbonise easily on the non-stick surface. This will leave a layer on the coating and will affect the non-stick performance of the pan.

How do I clean my Chop & Grill cookware?

1. Allow the pan to cool completely to avoid thermal shock and deforming

2. Wash the pan in warm soapy water and clean with a soft sponge or cloth. Avoid abrasive (green) pads or steel wool.

3. Dry with a soft towel and you are done!

Can Chop & Grill cookware go in the dishwasher?

Chop & Grill non-stick cookware is dishwasher safe, but we recommend hand wash. Wash with a little soapy water and clean it with a soft dishcloth or sponge. The non-stick properties of all non-stick coatings slowly fade with repeated dishwasher use because of the aggressive detergents in dishwasher soap.

Knives

What are the Chop & Grill knives made of?

Chop and Grill kitchen knives are made of stainless steel that has been pre-treated and coated with a protective non-stick coating. These treatments make them better resistant to rust and wear. It also prevents food from sticking to the blade. The blade and handle of our stainless steel knives have been welded together. Due to the protective treatments mentioned above, the welds are resistant to rusting. Chop and Grill steak knives are made of uncoated stainless steel with carbonised ashwood handles, that have been treated with natural mineral oil.

Can I put my Chop & Grill knives in the dishwasher?

Chop & Grill kitchen knives are dishwasher safe, but to prolong the longevity of your knife, we recommend hand wash with warm, soapy water. Due to their wooden handles, the steak knives are not dishwasher safe and should always be hand washed. We recommend to always let the wood dry thoroughly before storing, and to reapply natural mineral oil after the protective layer has worn off.

To prevent unnecessary wear, please dry your knives thoroughly. Avoid cutting on hard surfaces such as stone, metal or glass. When the blade has dulled, it’s possible to sharpen it with a knife sharpener, except if the blade is serrated (bread knife, serrated utility knife or steak knives).

My knife is dull, what do I do?

Knives can become dull over time, after frequent use. Use a knife sharpener to sharpen a dull blade. Serrated blades cannot be sharpened.

Can I use the table grill or barbecue indoors?

The table grill becomes very hot, do not move it during operation and never leave it unattended. Never use spirits or petrol for lighting or relighting! Only use firelighters complying with EN 1860-3 standards, and use purified charcoal complying with EN 1860-2. Carefully read the instructions before using.

What are the salt & pepper mill made of?

The salt & pepper mills are made of ashwood. The salt mill has been treated with a natural mineral oil finish, while the pepper mill has been lacquered in black. The salt mill uses a ceramic grinding mechanism, suited for grinding dry salt grains. The pepper mill has a steel grinding mechanism for grinding peppercorns. Both the salt and pepper mill have adjustable grain degrees, which can be set by twisting the knob on top.

Can I adjust the grain of the salt & pepper mills?

Yes, the grain of the salt & pepper mills can be adjusted by twisting the screw mechanism on top. Tighten for a finer grain, loosen for a coarser grain.

How can I refill my salt or pepper mill?

You can refill your salt or pepper mill by unscrewing the knob on top and removing the top segment. This reveals the inner compartment of the salt and pepper mills, which you can refill.

What are the cutting board and knife block made of?
